About Klezmer
What in the world is Klezmer?
Klezmer is a Yiddish combination of two Hebrew words "Klei Zemer"
which means: "musical instruments."
The musical instruments for Klezmer are usually violin, clarinet, accordion,
guitar, flute, grand bass & drums.
Klezmer music was created by Jews in eastern Europe and it sounded like Jazz
with a Jewish flavor.
Through the years, Klezmer was neglected, but when Jews from Eastern Europe
immigrated to the US they revived this style of Jewish music.
Even though most Klezmer music is played in minor keys, it is usually happy
music. It is performed in Jewish weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, klezmer fests and Jewish
simchas.
